#Choosing the Right Package
When you have both a newborn and a toddler, you want enough time to capture everything without rushing. Our Full Story package at $349 gives you 1 hour and 30 minutes with 18 edited photos, which works well for families who know what they want. If you want more breathing room (and with two little ones, you probably do), the Deluxe package at $490 gives you a full 2 hours and 30 beautifully edited photos.
You can also add a sibling mini set for just $30, which is a great way to get a few dedicated shots of the two kids together without eating into the rest of your session time.
#Timing It Right
This is where the session is won or lost. Toddlers run on their own schedule, and that schedule revolves around naps, snacks, and mood. Morning sessions tend to work best because most toddlers are at their happiest and most cooperative after a good night of sleep.
We always recommend scheduling around your toddler's nap time, not your newborn's. Newborns are generally flexible and will sleep through almost anything. Toddlers, on the other hand, will let you know very clearly when they are done.
#Setting Realistic Expectations
If you are imagining both kids sitting perfectly still, looking at the camera, and smiling at the same time, take a breath. That almost never happens, and that is completely okay. The photos families love most are almost always the candid ones: a toddler kissing the baby's forehead, a curious poke at tiny toes, a family laughing together on the bed.
We focus on capturing what is real. Perfection is overrated. Connection is what makes a photo worth framing.
#Letting the Toddler Be a Toddler
Toddlers do not take direction well, and forcing it usually backfires. Instead of fighting it, we lean into it. If your toddler wants to run around, we follow them. If they want to play with a toy, we work it into the shot. Some of the best sibling photos happen when the toddler decides on their own to come check on the baby.
Snacks and a favorite toy go a long way. Bring whatever keeps your toddler happy, and we will make it work.
#How We Split the Session
We typically start with baby-only poses while the newborn is settled and sleepy. This is the quietest part of the session and the best window for those peaceful, curled-up newborn shots. Once we have those covered, we bring in the toddler for sibling photos, then move into full family portraits.
Splitting it this way means the toddler is not waiting around getting restless, and the baby gets their dedicated time without distractions.
#Why In-Home Works Best for Siblings
Traveling to a studio with a newborn and a toddler is stressful. Packing the diaper bag, loading the car seat, timing the drive around feeds and naps. By the time you arrive, everyone is already tired. An in-home session removes all of that. Your toddler is in their own space, surrounded by familiar things, which makes them calmer and more cooperative.
Your home also gives the photos a personal, lived-in warmth that a studio backdrop simply cannot replicate. The nursery, the family bed, that spot by the window with the good light. These are the spaces where your family actually lives, and they make the photos feel like yours.
#A Note on Safety
With a toddler and a newborn in the same frame, safety is always the priority. We never leave the baby unsupported, and a parent or spotter is always within arm's reach. Toddlers are unpredictable, and we plan every setup with that in mind. No photo is worth a risk, and we will always pause or adjust if anything feels off.
