Congratulations on your new arrival! A newborn photoshoot is one of the most beautiful ways to capture those fleeting first days. Here's everything you need to know to make the most of your session.

#When to Schedule Your Session

The ideal time for a newborn session is within the first 5 to 14 days after birth. During this window, babies are sleepier, more flexible, and easier to pose in those adorable curled-up positions. We recommend booking during your third trimester so we can hold a tentative date and adjust once baby arrives.

Don't worry if you're past the two-week mark. We can still capture beautiful photos at any age. The style just shifts from sleepy posed shots to more awake, alert portraits.

#Feeding Before the Session

A full, sleepy baby is the secret to a smooth session. Try to feed your baby about 30 minutes before the photographer arrives. Whether you're breastfeeding or bottle feeding, a good feed helps baby settle into a deep sleep for those peaceful posed shots.

If baby is still fussy, don't stress. Your photographer will have plenty of patience and techniques to help soothe them. We always build in extra time for feeding and comfort breaks.

#What to Wear

For parents joining the photos, we recommend soft, neutral tones. Think whites, creams, beiges, and light greys. Avoid bold patterns, logos, and bright colors that can distract from baby. Solid colors photograph best.

For mom, a flowy dress or simple top works beautifully. For dad, a plain t-shirt or button-down in a muted tone. Keep jewelry minimal. The focus should be on the connection between you and your baby.

#Preparing Your Home

You don't need a picture-perfect home! We bring all the props, backdrops, and equipment. All we need is a warm room with good natural light. Usually a bedroom or living room near a large window works perfectly.

Crank up the heat to about 24 to 26 degrees before we arrive. Newborns lose body heat quickly, and a warm room helps them stay comfortable and sleepy during the session, especially for those adorable bare-skin poses.

#What We Bring

We arrive with everything needed for the session: soft wraps and swaddles, a posing beanbag, blankets, headbands and accessories, a portable backdrop stand, and a white noise machine. You don't need to prepare anything other than a warm room and a fed baby.

#On the Day

Relax and enjoy the experience. This is your time to soak in those newborn snuggles while we capture the magic. The session is entirely baby-led. We follow their cues, take breaks when needed, and never rush. Most families tell us it's one of the most peaceful mornings of their early parenthood.

Your edited gallery will be ready within two weeks, and you'll be able to choose your favorite photos for download. Every image is carefully edited to bring out the warmth and tenderness of those first days.
